Food Pilgrim is a monthly essay that documents my journey to learn about food as an expression of cultures. In these pieces I explore the stories of particular dishes, cooks, and my favorite destinations for special meals. I am the author of The Month of Their Ripening: North Carolina Heritage Foods through the Year from the University of North Carolina Press. I make my living as a writer and documentary filmmaker, but the one thing I do every day is eat!

Photographer and videographer Donna Campbell is a major contributor to this effort, too, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy her occasional videos embedded in these essays. We have just moved FOOD PILGRIM to Substack, so there’s lots of content already here, but now it will be easier for you to add comments and tell us your own stories about these sweet and savory profiles.

Please join us on the journey, and tell your friends!
